Korean Winter Skincare 2026: What Koreans Buy at Olive Young

By HaulKorea · Last checked 2026-10-15

Korean winter skincare is about holding on to moisture. As the air turns cold and dry, Korean shoppers move toward hydrating serums and ampoules, barrier creams with ceramides, and big bottles of body lotion. On October 15, 2026, Olive Young's skincare ranking was led by spray serums, hyaluronic acid serums and moisture creams, and its body care ranking was topped by Illiyoon's ceramide cream and lotion.

This guide shows what is selling now, how a typical Korean winter routine is built, which ingredients to look for, and how to get Korea-only sets abroad.

Why does skincare change in a Korean winter?

Korean winters are cold and dry, and indoor heating dries the air further. Korea's weather agency issues a dry weather advisory (건조주의보, geonjo juuibo) when effective humidity is expected to stay at 35% or lower for two days or more, and a dry weather warning when it stays at 25% or lower. These advisories show up in the news regularly in winter and early spring.

For skin, that means faster moisture loss, tight-feeling cheeks, flaky patches and rough hands. The Korean response is not one miracle product. It is layering: more hydrating steps under a heavier cream, plus body and hand care that people often skip in summer.

You will also see the phrase 속건조 (sok-geonjo, "inner dryness") on Korean product pages. It describes skin that feels oily or fine on the surface but tight underneath. One of the top-ranked ampoules on October 15 was tagged as essential for inner dryness (속건조필수템).

What are the Olive Young skincare bestsellers right now?

Olive Young, run by CJ Olive Young, is the health and beauty chain most Korean shoppers check first, and its sales rankings are a quick read on what is popular. Here is the top of the skincare ranking on October 15, 2026.

18 Dr.G Red Blemish Clear Soothing Cream EX 70ml set ₩38,000 / ₩27,600

Rank 9 was a small concentrate in a character collaboration set. We left out items that are not moisture-related to keep the table focused.

What stands out:

  • Hydration is everywhere. Four of the top eight were hyaluronic acid serums, ampoules or mists.
  • Spray serums are big. Both d'Alba spray serums were in the top seven. They are used between steps or over makeup.
  • Creams climb as it gets colder. Squalane, ceramide and panthenol creams sit just below the serums.
  • Sets beat singles. Almost every top item was a set with a refill, a mini or a second unit.

Rankings move daily, and by December the order will likely look different. Use this as a snapshot of mid-October, not a fixed list.

What body care do Koreans buy in winter?

Body care is where winter shows up most clearly. On October 15, 2026, Olive Young's body care ranking looked like this:

Rank Product List / sale price
1 Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream 150ml x2 from ₩25,000 / from ₩17,100
2 Dove Body Scrub 298g (6 scents) from ₩17,900 / from ₩10,500
3 Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Lotion 600ml from ₩31,900 / from ₩21,400
4 Tiela Perfume Nourishing Body Cream 200ml from ₩32,000 / from ₩27,740
5 Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion 1L from ₩25,600 / from ₩19,800
6 Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Lotion 600ml + 600ml ₩53,900 / ₩35,900
11 Beyond Classic Hand Cream 30ml (7 types) from ₩5,500, 1+1
12 Derma:B Daily Ceramide Body Lotion 560ml ₩22,000 / ₩15,900

Illiyoon is Amorepacific's low-irritation moisturizing brand. Amorepacific said in December 2021 that the Ceramide Ato Lotion had been first in the body lotion category of the Olive Young Awards for five years running. On October 15, 2026, the double-pack listing was still marketed as "5 years running #1," and three Illiyoon items sat in the top six.

Hand cream is the other winter staple. Small tubes sell in 1+1 deals and are a common small gift.

What about lips?

Lip care is the third winter category. The best-known Korean lip product abroad is Laneige's Lip Sleeping Mask, an overnight lip balm in a 20g jar. On October 15, 2026, Olive Young Korea listed it from ₩23,000, discounted from ₩16,200 as part of the October "Olive Young Pick" with three minis included. A smaller 8g + 8g Berry Choco set was listed at ₩17,600, discounted to ₩14,080.

Lip balms and hand creams are light and small, which makes them good add-ons to a box that is already going. On their own, they rarely justify international shipping.

Keep weight in mind before you add these to an overseas order. A 600ml or 1L pump bottle is heavy for what it costs, and shipping is charged by weight. See the shipping section below.

What is a typical Korean winter skincare routine?

There is no single official routine, but a common winter version keeps the cleansing gentle and adds hydration in thin layers. Here is how many Korean shoppers build it:

  1. Gentle cleanser. A low-pH or mild gel cleanser in the morning, or just water. In the evening, an oil or balm cleanser first if you wore sunscreen or makeup.
  2. Toner. A hydrating toner, often patted in two or three thin layers. Some people soak cotton pads and leave them on dry areas for a few minutes.
  3. Serum or ampoule. Hyaluronic acid, panthenol or PDRN serums are the winter favorites. This is where most of the ranking sits.
  4. Spray serum or mist. Used during the day over skincare or makeup when skin feels tight.
  5. Cream. A heavier cream than in summer. Ceramide, squalane or centella creams are common choices.
  6. Balm on dry spots. A thicker balm on cheeks, around the nose or on cracked areas.
  7. Sunscreen in the morning. Winter sun still matters, especially on snow or at altitude.
  8. Body lotion after showering, while skin is still a little damp, plus hand cream through the day.

If you have sensitive skin or a skin condition, patch-test new products and ask a dermatologist. This guide is about what Koreans buy, not medical advice.

What ingredients should you look for?

Korean product names often put the key ingredient first. Some terms to know:

Korean Romanized Meaning
세라마이드 seramaideu Ceramide, a lipid in the skin barrier
히알루론산 hialluronsan Hyaluronic acid, a humectant that holds water
판테놀 panteonol Panthenol (vitamin B5), common in soothing products
스쿠알란 seukuallan Squalane, a light oil
시카 sika Cica, from centella asiatica, used in soothing products
장벽 jangbyeok Barrier, as in "skin barrier"
수분 subun Moisture or hydration
보습 boseup Moisturizing
저분자 jeobunja Low molecular weight, often said of hyaluronic acid

When a listing says 장벽 크림 (jangbyeok keurim), it is selling a barrier cream. 수분 크림 (subun keurim) is a lighter hydrating cream.

Can you buy these products outside Korea?

Some, yes. Check these first, because they may be simpler than ordering from Korea:

  • Olive Young Global (global.oliveyoung.com) ships abroad and lists part of the Korean range. On October 15, 2026, it carried Torriden's Dive-In serum, cream and toner and Anua's Heartleaf toner, among many others.
  • Brand websites in your country, for brands like Torriden, Anua and COSRX.
  • Local retailers. Global brands in the ranking, like La Roche-Posay, Cetaphil, Dove and Paula's Choice, are sold in many countries, sometimes in different sizes or formulas, so check the label.

Reasons to order from Korea anyway: Korea-only sets with refills and minis, brands that are not on Olive Young Global, and sale prices. For a price comparison with real numbers, see is K-beauty cheaper in Korea.

How do you ship winter skincare from Korea?

Weight. Creams and serums are light enough. Big lotion bottles are not. If you want a 600ml or 1L body lotion, compare the shipping it adds with what the same size costs locally. Often, a small tube of the cream version makes more sense than a pump bottle of lotion.

Sprays and mists. Spray serums and mists may be pump sprays or pressurized aerosols. Aerosols and some alcohol-based products face carrier and country restrictions. Read what you cannot ship from Korea, and ask us before you order any spray.

Leaks. Liquids can leak in transit. We check items when they arrive at our warehouse and send inspection photos before shipping.

Duty. Cosmetics are imports in your country. Import duty is not included in the HaulKorea total. The US ended duty-free de minimis treatment for low-value parcels from all countries on August 29, 2025, according to CBP. In every country, including the US, the recipient pays local duty, tax and any carrier clearance fee on arrival.

How do you order Korean winter skincare with HaulKorea?

  1. Pick your products on Olive Young Korea or another Korean store and copy the links.
  2. Choose the exact set. Note the size, refill or bonus option, and shade if relevant.
  3. Add anything else from Korea to the same request. One box is cheaper than several. See combining orders from Korea.
  4. Check the total. We show one total that includes international shipping. You pay once by PayPal, with no Korean phone, card or account.
  5. We buy and receive the items at our warehouse in Korea.
  6. Check the inspection photos, including the set contents and expiry dates.
  7. We ship. If the box weighs less than estimated, we refund the shipping difference. No second charge.

When is the best time to buy?

Olive Young runs promotions every month, and the products in this guide were already discounted in mid-October. Bigger sale weeks come a few times a year. See Olive Young sale 2026 for how they work.

The rankings above also include October's "Olive Young Pick" (올영픽, olyeong pik) promotions, which change monthly. If you see a set you want, send the link sooner rather than later, because limited sets sell out and are replaced.

FAQ

What do Koreans use for skincare in winter?

More hydration and heavier creams. In mid-October 2026, Olive Young's skincare ranking was led by hyaluronic acid serums, spray serums and moisture creams, and body care was led by ceramide creams and lotions.

What is the best Korean moisturizer for winter?

There is no single best, and it depends on your skin. Popular choices on Olive Young in October 2026 included S.nature Aqua Squalane Moisture Cream, Aestura Atobarrier365 Cream and Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream.

Why is Illiyoon so popular in Korea?

It is a low-irritation moisturizing brand from Amorepacific, sold in large, affordable bottles. Amorepacific said in 2021 that its Ceramide Ato Lotion had led the Olive Young Awards body lotion category for five years in a row.

What is a spray serum?

It is a serum in a spray bottle, used over skincare or makeup during the day. Two d'Alba spray serums were in Olive Young's top seven skincare items on October 15, 2026.

Can I buy Olive Young winter sets from abroad?

Some products are on Olive Young Global, but many Korea-only sets with refills or minis are only on Olive Young Korea. A purchasing agent or package forwarder can get those.

Can HaulKorea ship body lotion and mists?

Lotions and creams are usually fine, but large bottles are heavy and raise shipping. Sprays and mists can be restricted depending on the type and destination, so ask us before you order them.

Are all Olive Young bestsellers Korean brands?

No. The October 2026 rankings also included global brands such as La Roche-Posay, Paula's Choice, Cetaphil and Dove. If one of those is your target, check your local stores first, because they may already be sold where you live.

Does a Korean winter routine need ten steps?

No. Most people use four to six products. The common thread is gentle cleansing, a hydrating layer, a cream and sunscreen in the morning.

Ready to build a winter box?

Pick a hydrating serum, a cream that suits your skin and maybe a hand cream or two, then send us the links together. We will show you one total with shipping included before you pay.
