How to Buy from Aladin (알라딘) from Overseas: Books, Albums and Used Books (2026 Guide)
Yes, you can order from Aladin from outside Korea, and you may not need a purchasing agent at all. Aladin ships overseas itself by DHL, UPS or EMS, and it runs a separate site, Aladin US, for buyers in the United States and Canada. The gaps are specific: used books from individual sellers, Aladin-exclusive goods, cosmetics, and combining orders. This guide covers what Aladin's own shipping does, where it stops, what things cost in won, and when a service like HaulKorea makes sense.

What Aladin is, and why people outside Korea want it
Aladin is one of Korea's three big online bookstores, next to YES24 and Kyobo. Most of its catalog is books.
Two things set it apart. The first is used books. Aladin buys used books from customers and resells them, online and through a chain of more than 40 used bookstores across Korea. Used stock is graded, priced below new, and often includes out-of-print titles you will not find anywhere else.
The second is goods. Aladin designs its own book-themed merchandise, such as bookmarks, pens, book lights and book clips, and gives some of it out with qualifying book orders. These items are a real reason people choose Aladin, and they are the hardest part to get abroad.
Aladin also sells K-pop albums, LPs and DVDs. Fans use it mostly when a store-specific preorder benefit or fan-sign entry is attached.
Can you buy from Aladin directly from overseas?
In many cases, yes. Here is exactly what Aladin's own pages say.
Overseas shipping exists. Aladin's shipping guide lists three international methods, DHL, UPS and EMS, all with tracking. When we checked, the guide said UPS shipping to the Americas was suspended because of customs issues.
Aladin US exists. If you live in the US or Canada, Aladin points you to Aladin US (us.aladin.co.kr). Orders travel by DHL from the Korean warehouse to a US warehouse, then go out by a local delivery method you choose. Foreign credit and debit cards are accepted there. Aladin's store in Los Angeles Koreatown closed at the end of January 2026, according to LAist; online ordering continued.
Some things do not ship. Aladin's guide says cosmetics cannot be sent abroad. CDs, DVDs, tapes and non-book magazines are restricted depending on the shipping method. The customer center also warns that magazine supplements and free gifts can be refused at customs.
Signup has a route for overseas residents. Aladin's signup page lists four member types: general, child, corporate, and "Resident Abroad". The standard form asks for a name, ID, email, password and mobile number. We did not fill in the form, so we cannot say exactly what the Resident Abroad version requires.
Orders can be limited. Aladin's terms of service let it restrict purchase quantity or method when it judges a buying pattern to be unreasonable or unfair to other shoppers. Limited goods and popular albums are where this matters.
Used books from individual sellers are a separate system. On Aladin, used books come from three places: Aladin itself, Aladin's physical used stores, and individual sellers. Individual sellers set their own shipping fees and ship from their own homes or shops. Do not assume these can be added to an overseas order.
Three ways to buy from Aladin
| 1. Direct (Aladin overseas shipping or Aladin US) | 2. You buy, we ship (package forwarding) | 3. We buy for you (HaulKorea) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who pays Aladin | You | You | HaulKorea |
| Needs an Aladin account | Yes | Yes | No |
| Needs Korean reading ability | Yes, site is Korean only | Yes | No |
| Used books from individual sellers | Not reliably | Yes, if you can order them | Ask us before you order |
| Aladin goods and gifts | May be refused at customs or excluded | Yes, shipped domestically first | Yes, if the item itself can be exported |
| Combine with other Korean stores | No | Yes | Yes |
| Payment | Card on Aladin | Card on Aladin, then forwarding fees | PayPal, one payment |
| Best for | A stack of new books, US or Canada especially | People who already have an account and a working card | No account, no Korean, or mixed-store orders |
Go direct if you only want new books, you can get through checkout in Korean, and you live somewhere DHL reaches. US and Canadian buyers should compare Aladin US against the Korean site with DHL.
Use forwarding if you already have an Aladin account and a card that works, and you want to bundle Aladin with orders from other stores. We explain the difference in purchasing agent vs package forwarding.
Use a purchasing agent if you cannot create an account, your card fails, you cannot read the checkout, or the item will not ship abroad from Aladin.
How to order from Aladin with HaulKorea, step by step

What it costs
Book prices. Korea has a fixed book price system, 도서정가제 (doseo jeonggaje). Under Article 22 of the Publishing Industry Promotion Act, a bookstore may discount a new book by at most 10% of its list price, and add at most 5% more in points or other benefits. So the most you will see is 15% off in total, and that cap is the same at every store.
The Korean Publishers Association reported that new titles published in 2025 had an average list price of ₩19,897. Expect about 10% off that at checkout.
Domestic shipping. Aladin's shipping guide says most books ship free within Korea, even a single copy. That is more generous than YES24 or Kyobo, which both charge below ₩15,000. The guide's exceptions are comics, magazines and books priced under ₩2,000, which ship free from ₩20,000 and otherwise cost ₩2,000. It lists the same ₩2,000 fee for albums and DVDs under ₩25,000, although a ₩19,800 album we checked showed free shipping on its product page, so the guide may be out of date (as of October 2026).
| Sold by | Domestic shipping (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Aladin, most new books | Free, even for one copy |
| Aladin, comics and magazines | ₩2,000 under ₩20,000 |
| Aladin, used books | ₩2,500 under ₩20,000 |
| Individual used-book sellers | Set by each seller |
| Outside vendors (some goods) | Set by each vendor |
Real prices, checked October 5, 2026. The week's number one book, a new Haruki Murakami novel in hardcover, was ₩16,650 against a ₩18,500 list price, exactly 10% off, with 5% back in points. A K-pop album in a random-version package was ₩19,800 (list ₩23,700), and a vinyl EP was ₩41,300. Aladin's own goods were far cheaper: a three-color pen at ₩1,500, a paper bookmark set at ₩3,500, a book-holding clip at ₩4,800.
Aladin's own overseas shipping. Free shipping never applies to overseas or Aladin US orders. DHL is priced by the number of items, and UPS and EMS by total weight. With EMS the final charge is settled after dispatch and any difference is refunded the following month. For scale, a New Zealand buyer reported paying ₩41,200 by DHL for four books weighing 2.7 kg in July 2025. Treat that as an example only.

What to buy on Aladin
- Korean novels and essays. Literature averaged ₩15,784 list among 2025 titles. Small and light.
- Korean language textbooks. Language titles averaged ₩20,520. Check that audio is a download, not a CD.
- Manhwa and comics volumes. ₩7,098 on average. Sets get heavy fast.
- Children's picture books. ₩14,503 on average.
- Out-of-print used books. The main reason to choose Aladin over other stores. Graded 최상 (choesang, best), 상 (sang, good) or 중 (jung, fair).
- Aladin goods. Book-themed items, many under ₩5,000, plus gifts tied to a minimum book spend and paid for with points. Availability changes monthly.
- K-pop albums and LPs. Around ₩13,000 to ₩20,000 for the CD albums on the bestseller list when we checked, and about ₩41,000 for vinyl. Worth checking when Aladin has its own preorder benefit or fan-sign entry.
Things that go wrong, and how to avoid them
A used copy sells out. Used listings are often a single copy. Between your quote and the purchase, someone else may buy it. Give a second choice or an acceptable grade range.
The grade is not what you pictured. Aladin grades used books in three tiers. "Fair" can still mean underlining or a worn cover. Inspection photos let you see the actual copy before international shipping is spent on it.
The free gift does not come. Aladin's customer center says free gifts and magazine supplements can be refused at customs on direct overseas orders. Gifts also run out.
Preorders hold up the whole order. Aladin ships an order when its slowest item is ready. One preorder album can delay five in-stock books. Split them, or use consolidation.
Restricted items. Aladin itself will not ship cosmetics abroad. For anything with batteries, liquids or magnets, such as book lights, check our prohibited items list first.
Chart counting. Aladin's album pages state that Aladin is a Hanteo Family store and that purchases are reflected on the Hanteo chart and in Circle chart sales counts. What we could not confirm is how an order placed through an agent is treated. If chart counting is your reason for buying, do not rely on it here.
Event albums cannot be cancelled. Albums sold with a fan-sign entry carry a notice that orders placed during the event period cannot be cancelled or returned after entries close.
Returns, grading disputes and customs
Aladin's returns guide and its terms of service both give 20 days from receipt for returns. Using Aladin's designated courier deducts ₩2,000 from the refund. Opened CDs and DVDs, items marked non-returnable, sets with missing parts, and products with packaging removed cannot be returned. Aladin does not exchange one product for another; you return, get a refund, and order again. For used books from individual sellers, the selling guide gives buyers five days after shipment to confirm or raise a return, and refunds are settled with the seller.
Through an agent, the timeline is tighter in practice. The item arrives at a Korean warehouse first, so a return is only realistic before it ships abroad. That is the purpose of the inspection photos. Once a book is overseas, sending it back usually costs more than the book. Our rules are on the refund page.
Customs. Rules differ by country, and outside the US the recipient pays any import tax. For the US, the $800 duty-free allowance for packages ended on August 29, 2025, and goods from Korea now face a new tariff layer that took effect on July 24, 2026. Law-firm summaries of that measure say informational materials, a category that has covered books and recorded music, are exempt. Goods and stationery are not. HaulKorea's US shipments include duty in the price, so there is nothing to pay at the door. The details are in our US import duty guide.
FAQ
Does Aladin ship internationally? Yes. Aladin's shipping guide lists DHL, UPS and EMS for overseas orders, and Aladin US serves the US and Canada. Cosmetics are excluded, and CDs and DVDs are restricted on some methods.
What is the difference between Aladin US and Aladin Korea? Aladin US is a separate storefront for North America that takes foreign cards and prices in dollars. Orders go from Korea to a US warehouse by DHL and then to you. The Korean site has the full catalog, including used books and goods.
Can I buy used books from Aladin from abroad? Used books sold by Aladin itself are the easiest. Copies from individual sellers ship under each seller's own terms and may not be available for overseas delivery. Through HaulKorea, ask us before you order.
Can I pay on Aladin with a foreign credit card? Aladin's customer center tells US and Canadian buyers who want to pay with a foreign credit or debit card to use Aladin US. On the Korean site, buyers have reported Visa and Mastercard working and American Express not working, but we found no official statement.
Do I pay US import duty on Korean books? Books have long been duty-free in the US tariff schedule, and the 2026 tariff measure reportedly exempts informational materials. Mixed parcels with goods are a different matter. See our duty guide.
Can I combine Aladin with YES24 or Kyobo in one box? Not through Aladin's own shipping. With HaulKorea you can. See our guides to YES24 and Kyobo.
