Korean Shopping Terms: Online Shopping Glossary with Romanization (2026)
The Korean shopping terms you will meet most are 품절 (pumjeol, sold out), 예약판매 (yeyak panmae, preorder), 무료배송 (muryo baesong, free shipping), 적립금 (jeongnipgeum, store points), 쿠폰 (kupon, coupon) and 본인인증 (bon-in injeung, identity verification). Most Korean shopping sites have no English version, and browser translation often garbles exactly these words.
This glossary groups more than 80 terms by where you meet them: sign-up, product pages, prices, payment, shipping, order status and returns. Each has Hangul, romanization and a plain-English meaning.
Quick facts: the 10 terms you need first

Romanization here follows the Revised Romanization of Korean, the system used on Korean road signs, with small simplifications for readability.
What do Korean sign-up and account terms mean?
This is where most overseas shoppers get stuck, so it helps to know what the screen is asking for.
| Korean | Romanization | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 회원가입 | hoewon gaip | Sign up / create account |
| 로그인 | rogeuin | Log in |
| 비회원 주문 | bihoewon jumun | Guest checkout |
| 본인인증 | bon-in injeung | Identity verification |
| 휴대폰 인증 | hyudaepon injeung | Mobile phone verification |
| 실명인증 | silmyeong injeung | Real-name verification |
| 아이핀 (i-PIN) | aipin | An online ID number used instead of a resident number |
| 공동인증서 / 공인인증서 | gongdong injeungseo / gong-in injeungseo | Digital certificate (the second is the older name) |
| 간편 로그인 | ganpyeon rogeuin | Social login (Kakao, Naver, Apple, Google) |
| 약관 동의 | yakgwan dongui | Agree to terms |
| 필수 / 선택 | pilsu / seontaek | Required / optional (on checkboxes) |
| 만 14세 이상 | man sipsa-se isang | Age 14 or older (international age) |
| 내국인 / 외국인 | naegugin / oegugin | Korean national / foreign national |
What 본인인증 really requires. Identity verification on Korean sites usually runs through a Korean mobile carrier, an i-PIN or a digital certificate, all tied to a Korean identity. Daiso Mall's FAQ, for example, says sign-up is for Korean nationals with a mobile phone in their own name, a digital certificate or an i-PIN that can pass real-name verification. 10x10's FAQ says sign-up needs verification with a domestic mobile number. A foreign phone number does not pass these checks. Our guide to Korean phone verification explains the options.
What do the words on a Korean product page mean?

| 리뷰 / 포토리뷰 | ribyu / poto ribyu | Review / review with photos |
| 상세페이지 참조 | sangse peiji chamjo | See the detail images |
Read the images, not just the text. Korean product pages put most information inside long image banners, which browser translation cannot read. Sizes, ingredients, set contents and shipping notes are often there. Zoom in on the images or use an image translation tool.
Sizes and measurements have their own vocabulary. See our Korean clothing size chart and Korean shoe size chart.
| Korean | Romanization | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 실측 | silcheuk | Actual measurements |
| 단면 | danmyeon | Measured flat (double for the full circumference) |
| 총장 | chongjang | Total length |
| 프리사이즈 / FREE | peuri saijeu | One size |
| 용량 | yongnyang | Volume or weight (ml, g) |
| 호 / 호수 | ho / hosu | Shade number or size number |
What do Korean price, discount and points terms mean?
| Korean | Romanization | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 정가 | jeongga | List price |
| 판매가 | panmaega | Selling price |
| 할인가 | halin-ga | Discounted price |
| 최대혜택가 | choedae hyetaek-ga | Lowest price after all coupons and benefits |
| 쿠폰 | kupon | Coupon |
| 쿠폰 다운로드 | kupon daunrodeu | Claim the coupon (it is not applied until you do) |
| 중복할인 | jungbok halin | Stackable discount |
| 적립금 | jeongnipgeum | Store points or credit |
| 포인트 | pointeu | Points |
| 1+1 / 2+1 | wonpeulleoseuwon / tupeulleoseuwon | Buy one get one / buy two get one |
| 증정 / 사은품 | jeungjeong / sa-eunpum | Free gift |
| 기획 / 기획세트 | gihoek / gihoek seteu | Special set, often with extras |
| 특가 / 타임특가 | teukga / taim teukga | Special price / time-limited deal |
| 최저가 | choejeoga | Lowest price |
| 무료배송 | muryo baesong | Free shipping (domestic) |
| 원 (₩) | won | Korean won |
Coupons that must be claimed. On many Korean sites, the price shown as 최대혜택가 assumes you have downloaded every coupon and paid with a specific card or wallet. The price you actually pay can be higher. Look for 쿠폰 다운로드 buttons before checkout.
Two prices on one line. When a page shows a struck-through number next to a smaller one, the first is usually 정가 and the second is 판매가 or 할인가. The percentage beside them is the discount from list price, not from last week's price.
Points are usually domestic. 적립금 is credit for that one store. It is not cash and generally cannot be moved elsewhere.
What do Korean payment terms mean?
| Korean | Romanization | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 결제 | gyeolje | Payment |
| 결제수단 | gyeolje sudan | Payment method |

| 해외카드 / 해외발급카드 | haeoe kadeu / haeoe balgeup kadeu | Overseas-issued card |
| 무통장입금 | mutongjang ipgeum | Bank deposit (transfer to the store's account) |
| 가상계좌 | gasang gyeoja | Virtual account (a one-time account number to pay into) |
| 실시간 계좌이체 | silsigan gyeoja iche | Real-time bank transfer |
| 간편결제 | ganpyeon gyeolje | Easy pay (Kakao Pay, Naver Pay, Toss Pay and others) |
| 할부 / 일시불 | halbu / ilsibul | Installments / single payment |
| 결제완료 | gyeolje wallyo | Payment complete |
Why foreign cards fail. Korean checkouts are built around Korean cards and wallets, and some stores block overseas cards entirely. 10x10's FAQ, for example, says all overseas-issued cards, including Visa, Mastercard and JCB, have been suspended since March 23, 2023. Our guide on paying Korean stores with a foreign card goes further.

How domestic shipping fees look in practice (as of October 2026):

|---|---|---|
| Daiso Mall | ₩3,000 | ₩30,000; extra for Jeju and remote areas |
| SMTOWN &STORE (Korean site) | ₩3,000 | ₩50,000 |
| YG SELECT (Korean site) | ₩3,000 | ₩50,000; extra for Jeju and Ulleungdo |
These fees apply to delivery inside Korea. When someone in Korea buys for you, they are part of the total. Our Korean address format guide explains how 배송지 entries are written.
What do Korean order status terms mean?
| Korean | Romanization | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 주문접수 | jumun jeopsu | Order received |
| 입금대기 | ipgeum daegi | Waiting for payment (bank deposit) |
| 결제완료 | gyeolje wallyo | Payment complete |

Preorder vocabulary adds a few more. 예약판매 (yeyak panmae) is preorder, 순차출고 (suncha chulgo) means items ship in order of purchase from a set date, and 발매일 (balmaeil) is the release date. On a stationery best-seller list in October 2026, for example, several diaries were marked "[11/9 순차출고]": shipping in sequence from November 9. See our guide to Korean preorders.
What do Korean return and exchange terms mean?
| Korean | Romanization | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 교환 | gyohwan | Exchange |
| 반품 | banpum | Return |
| 환불 | hwanbul | Refund |
| 취소 | chwiso | Cancel |
| 청약철회 | cheongyak cheolhoe | Legal right to withdraw from a purchase |
| 단순변심 | dansun byeonsim | Change of mind |
| 오배송 | obaesong | Wrong item delivered |
| 불량 / 하자 | bullyang / haja | Defect |
| 왕복배송비 | wangbok baesongbi | Round-trip shipping fee |
| 반품비 | banpumbi | Return fee |
| 수거 | sugeo | Pickup (by the courier) |
| 교환/반품 불가 | gyohwan/banpum bulga | No exchanges or returns |
The 7-day rule. Korea's e-commerce consumer law generally lets online buyers withdraw within 7 days of receiving the goods. The buyer pays return shipping for a change of mind. If the item does not match the ad or the contract, the window is 3 months from receipt or 30 days from when the buyer found out, and the seller pays. Sellers can refuse returns in some cases, such as items damaged by the buyer or copyable goods like albums whose packaging was opened, according to the government's Easy Law guide.
Stores apply this with their own numbers. SMTOWN &STORE's Korean site, for instance, charges ₩6,000 round-trip shipping for a change-of-mind return. Global sites can be stricter: Musinsa Global accepts refunds only for defective, damaged or wrong items.
For overseas buyers, the 7 days run while the item is in Korea. That is why inspection before export matters. See returns from Korean stores.
What do seller and authenticity terms mean?
| Korean | Romanization | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 공식몰 / 공식스토어 | gongsikmol / gongsik seuto-eo | Official store |
| 브랜드관 | beuraendeugwan | Brand hall on a marketplace |
| 정품 | jeongpum | Genuine product |
| 정품인증 | jeongpum injeung | Authenticity verification |
| 병행수입 | byeonghaeng suip | Parallel import |
| 오픈마켓 | opeun maket | Open marketplace (many sellers) |
| 판매자 / 셀러 | panmaeja / selleo | Seller |
| 중고 | junggo | Secondhand |
| 새상품 / 미개봉 | saesangpum / migaebong | New / unopened |
| 직거래 / 택배거래 | jikgeorae / taekbae georae | In-person deal / deal by parcel (on resale apps) |
On open marketplaces, the platform is not always the seller. Read who the seller is before buying, especially for luxury goods and cosmetics. See avoiding fake Korean products.
K-pop stores add their own layer: 특전 (teukjeon, store benefit), 포카 (poka, photocard), 랜덤 (raendeom, random version) and 미공개 (migonggae, unreleased photo). Our K-pop store comparison explains how benefits differ between stores.
How do you read a Korean product page, step by step?
- Check the top of the page for 품절 or 일시품절. If either appears, stop.
- Find the option menu (옵션 선택). Write down the exact option text you want, in Korean.
- Look for 예약판매 or 순차출고 with a date. If you see one, the item ships later.
- Compare 판매가 and 최대혜택가. The second may need coupons or a specific card.
- Read the shipping line: 배송비, the 무료배송 threshold, and whether the item ships from the brand (업체배송).
- Scroll the detail images for sizes, set contents and notes. Look for 해외배송 불가.
- Check the return rules (교환/반품). Note anything marked 교환/반품 불가.
- Copy the product address and the option text. If you order through us, send both.
FAQ
What does 품절 mean on a Korean website?
It means sold out. 일시품절 means temporarily out of stock, and 재입고 알림 is a button to get a restock alert.
What is 본인인증?
본인인증 (bon-in injeung) is identity verification. On Korean sites it usually runs through a Korean mobile number, i-PIN or digital certificate in your own name, which is why foreign visitors often cannot sign up.
What is the difference between 교환, 반품 and 환불?
교환 is an exchange, 반품 is a return, and 환불 is the refund. A return request (반품) leads to a refund (환불) once the item is checked.
What does 예약판매 mean?
Preorder. The item ships on or after a stated date. Anything combined with it in one box waits until it arrives.
What does 무료배송 mean, and does it include international shipping?
It means free domestic delivery inside Korea, often above a minimum such as ₩30,000 or ₩50,000. It never covers international shipping.
What is 적립금?
Store points or credit. You earn it on purchases or reviews and spend it on the same site. It is not cash and usually stays with that store.
What does 해외배송 불가 mean?
No overseas delivery. The store will only deliver to Korean addresses, so you need someone in Korea to receive the item and ship it on.
What is 구매확정?
Purchase confirmation. On many Korean platforms, it finalizes the sale and releases payment to the seller. Return requests are harder after it.
Need help with a Korean store?
If a page has stopped you at 본인인증, 해외카드 or 해외배송 불가, send us the product link and the option text in Korean. We will show you the total, international shipping included, before you pay once by PayPal. More terms for specific stores are in our Korean shopping apps guide.
