How to Buy from Bunjang from Overseas (2026 Guide)

Yes, you can buy from Bunjang (번개장터, Bungaejangter) from outside Korea. The Korean app itself needs a Korean phone number and ships only within Korea, but there are two working routes. Bunjang runs its own site for overseas shoppers, Global Bunjang. Or you can paste a Korean Bunjang listing into HaulKorea and we buy it for you. This guide explains how each route works, what the fees and checks really cover, and what is different about buying from a private seller instead of a store.

What is Bunjang and why do overseas shoppers want it?

Bunjang is a Korean resale marketplace operated by Bungaejangter Inc., which has run the service since 2011. Individual sellers and small "pro shops" list used and unopened goods, and buyers pay through the app. It is where Korean fans sell concert merchandise, photocards, albums, and lightsticks after a tour, and it is also heavy on sneakers, streetwear, designer bags, and cameras.

The draw for overseas shoppers is supply. A card or jacket that left Korean retail years ago still circulates on Bunjang at Korean secondhand prices. Global Bunjang's category list shows what overseas buyers come for: trading cards, boy group and girl group merchandise, dolls and figures, CDs, DVDs and LPs, books, sneakers, bags, apparel, Pokémon items, and luxury goods.

Bunjang also changed how it handles money. Since August 1, 2024, every transaction has to go through 안전결제 (anjeon gyeolje, safe payment). The platform holds the buyer's money and releases it to the seller after the buyer confirms receipt. Korean media reported that the 3.5% fee, which buyers used to pay when they chose safe payment, moved to the seller at that point. The seller-side fee has since been raised to 6% for regular sellers and 6–10% for pro shops, by category.

For you, that means off-platform bank transfers, the classic scam route, are no longer part of a Bunjang deal.

Can you buy from Bunjang directly from overseas?

On the Korean app, realistically no. Global Bunjang's own comparison says the Korean service expects a Korean phone number and a local address. The interface and seller chat are in Korean, and sellers ship only within Korea.

On Global Bunjang, yes. Here is how it works, based on Bunjang's official pages.

Listings. Global Bunjang shows only listings that are eligible for international shipping. That is a subset of the Korean app. Something you found through a Korean search result may not appear there.

Language. The site has a full English interface and translates listings automatically. Translation of condition notes is imperfect, so read the photos more than the text.

Where the item goes. You pay into escrow. The seller ships to one of three partner warehouses in Korea, which checks the parcel and waits for you to request and pay for international shipping. Consolidation of several Global Bunjang purchases is free.

The check. Bunjang's guide states that staff verify the item matches the listing in type, quantity, and visible condition, and that this is not an authentication service. If the item does not match, Bunjang says it contacts you and refunds in full before anything is exported.

Messaging the seller. Global Bunjang's FAQ lists this among its top questions: "The seller asks to contact them before buying, but I can't send a message." That suggests buyers on the global site cannot chat with sellers. We could not confirm whether offers are possible.

Timing. Bunjang's shipping guide gives a typical total of one to three weeks: seller confirmation within about a day, packing in one to two days, domestic transit in one to three days, the warehouse check in one to two days, then international processing and customs.

The Korean app directly is for people who live in Korea or kept a verified account and an address there.

Global Bunjang is Bunjang's own service and a good choice. It needs no Korean credentials, the refund-on-mismatch rule is built in, and the company running the check is the marketplace itself. If the listing you want is on the global site and it is all you are buying, there is no need to look further.

HaulKorea makes sense in these cases:

• The listing is on the Korean site but not on the global one.
• You are also buying from other Korean stores, such as KREAM or Starbucks Korea, and want everything in one box.
• You prefer one payment with international shipping already in it, and no second bill.
• You are in the United States and want import duty included in the price.

What is different from buying at a store

A Bunjang order through HaulKorea is still a private sale between two people. Four things follow from that, and we would rather you know them before you pay.

• The seller may not respond, or may cancel. Bunjang's terms cancel a trade automatically when the seller does not accept or ship within the set period, and the payment is returned within three business days. You are then refunded under our refund policy.
• Condition is whatever the seller listed. We buy the item shown. We do not grade it.
• Returns depend on the seller. Under Bunjang's terms a buyer can request a return before confirming, and the seller may accept or refuse. After confirmation, Bunjang does not step in.
• Our warehouse check is not an authenticity appraisal. We compare what arrived against the listing and send you photos. We cannot certify that a bag, sneaker, or photocard is genuine.

Step by step: buying a Bunjang listing with HaulKorea

1. Find the listing on the Korean Bunjang site and copy its address (it starts with m.bunjang.co.kr/products/ on mobile).
2. Paste it into the quote form and choose your country.
3. Add your question for the seller, if you have one. For example: "Is the box included?" or "Any marks on the back?" We ask before buying and pass on the answer.
4. Review the total. It includes international shipping. You pay once, by PayPal. If the measured weight makes shipping cheaper, the difference is refunded. There is no later charge.
5. We buy the listing with safe payment. If it has already sold, or the seller does not accept, the order is cancelled and refunded.
6. The seller ships to our Korean warehouse. Private sellers take anywhere from the same day to several days.
7. We check it against the listing and send photos. If it clearly does not match, we tell you and raise it with the seller before the purchase is confirmed. We cannot promise how a private seller will respond.

What does a Bunjang order cost?

On the Bunjang side:

• Item price. Set by the seller. Many listings say 배송비포함 (baesongbi poham, shipping included); others add it.
• Domestic shipping. Global Bunjang's cost guide puts it at typically ₩2,000–₩3,000 inside Korea, or free when the seller covers it (as of October 2026).
• Buyer-side platform fee on the Korean app. The safe payment fee was made free for buyers in August 2024. The seller pays the sales fee, and some sellers price that in.
• Bungae Care (번개케어). Optional paid inspection run by Bunjang. Details below.

On Global Bunjang, international shipping is paid in a second step once the item reaches the warehouse. Its blog states that Bunjang charges nothing further after checkout, and that government import charges are the only cost that comes later.

What do people buy on Bunjang?

Prices on a resale platform move daily, so treat these as categories, not quotes.

• K-pop photocards and albums. The largest category on the global site. Single cards, full sets, and sealed albums from past eras.
• Concert and pop-up merchandise. Lightsticks, tour hoodies, slogans, and items sold only at venues.
• Dolls and figures. Idol plush dolls and character figures, often from limited preorders.
• Sneakers and streetwear. Korean-market colorways and sizes. Compare with KREAM, where every pair passes through an inspection center.
• Designer bags and wallets. Higher risk. This is where Bungae Care matters.
• LPs and CDs. Korean pressings and out-of-print releases.
• Pokémon and trading cards. Korean-language sets and promos.
• Cameras and small electronics. Popular, but batteries create shipping limits. Check the prohibited items list first.

Things that go wrong on Bunjang (and how to avoid them)

The item sells while you are deciding. Each listing is usually one physical item. There is no restock. Send the link the same day you find it.

The seller never ships. Private sellers forget, change their minds, or sell elsewhere. With escrow the money is not released, but days are lost.

Condition is described generously. "S급" (S-geup, S grade) or "거의 새것" (nearly new) is the seller's opinion. Have us ask about corners, soles, and tags before buying, or accept that you are judging from the listing photos alone.

"In person only" listings. Some sellers write 직거래 (jikgeorae, in-person deal). We buy listings that ship by courier.

Nobody in the chain authenticates by default. Global Bunjang says its warehouse check is not authentication, and the same is true of ours. Bunjang's own answer is Bungae Care, which its help center describes as a paid service that checks authenticity and function before delivery: authenticity for luxury goods and sneakers, and a 17-point function check for smartphones. Bunjang states that it certifies authenticity and function only, not flaws or condition. The fee is shown when you apply. Once a Bungae Care item passes, the seller is paid at once and returns are not possible in principle. If you want it on a HaulKorea order, ask us before you order.

Automatic confirmation. Bunjang's terms confirm a purchase automatically if the buyer does not confirm or request a return within a period the company sets. Korean press reported in 2024 that the period was cut from five days to three. After that the seller is paid, which is why the warehouse check has to happen promptly.

Batteries, perfume, aerosols. Phones, cameras with lithium cells, fragrances, and sprays may not be shippable by air.

Returns, sizing, and customs on a secondhand order

Returns on Bunjang are not like returns at a retailer. If the item is what the listing showed, a change of mind, a size that does not fit, or a color that looks different in daylight is not grounds for a refund. Global Bunjang's rule is that it refunds when the warehouse finds a mismatch before international shipping.

Either way, the moment before export is the one that counts. Once a parcel has left Korea, sending it back costs international postage both ways and the seller has been paid. Look at the inspection photos when they arrive and reply quickly. Details are in our refund policy.

Sizing: Korean sneaker listings use millimeters (260, 270). Clothing sizes on secondhand listings are often the seller's guess, so ask for measurements in centimeters.

Customs differ by country. Global Bunjang's cost guide notes that low-value imports to the US no longer enter duty free as of August 2025, and that buyers pay import charges after checkout. With HaulKorea, US-bound orders have import duty included in the total, so nothing is due at delivery. For every other country, duty and tax are not included and the recipient pays them on arrival.

FAQ

Is Global Bunjang legit? Yes. It is operated by Bungaejangter Inc., the same company behind the Korean app. It is not a third-party reseller.

Can I use the Korean Bunjang app without a Korean phone number? Bunjang's own comparison says the Korean service requires a Korean phone number and local address. Overseas buyers use the global site or a buying service.

Does Bunjang charge buyers a fee? On the Korean app, the safe payment fee was removed for buyers in August 2024 and the seller pays the sales fee. For Global Bunjang, check the total at checkout. We did not find a published rate.

Does anyone authenticate the item? Not by default. The Global Bunjang check and the HaulKorea check both confirm the item matches the listing. Neither is authentication. Bungae Care is Bunjang's separate paid inspection for specific categories.

Can HaulKorea negotiate the price with the seller? We can ask the seller a question before buying. We do not promise price negotiation. Ask us, and tell us the most you would pay.

Can I return a Bunjang item if I change my mind? Generally no. A return can be requested before confirmation, but the seller may refuse, and a confirmed trade is final.

Should I use Global Bunjang or HaulKorea? Global Bunjang if the listing is there and it is all you are buying. HaulKorea if the listing is only on the Korean site, if you want it packed with orders from other Korean stores, or if you want one payment with shipping and, for the US, duty included.
