What Is Coupang Rocket Delivery? Rocket, Fresh, Growth Explained

Rocket Delivery (로켓배송, roket baesong) is Coupang's own fast-shipping service in Korea: Coupang buys the product, stores it in its fulfillment centers and delivers it with its own network, usually by the next day and often by 7 a.m. if you order before midnight. It only delivers to Korean addresses, so buyers abroad need a Korean address, a forwarder or a purchasing agent, unless they live in Taiwan, where Coupang runs its own service.

Below we explain each Rocket label you will see on Coupang, what WOW membership adds, how seller-shipped items differ, and what all of this means when you order from outside Korea.

What is Rocket Delivery on Coupang?

On a Coupang product page, a small rocket badge marks items that ship through Coupang's own logistics. "Rocket Delivery" in its original sense means Coupang is the seller. It buys stock from the brand or supplier, holds it in its own fulfillment centers, sets the price and sends it with its own delivery staff.

Korean industry coverage has described it plainly: in Rocket Delivery, Coupang buys the goods directly and delivers them itself. A 2020 Byline Network article explained the money side too. For Rocket Delivery, Coupang pays the supplier a purchase price when the goods enter its warehouse. That is different from a marketplace, where the seller gets paid only after a sale, minus a commission.

Because Coupang controls the whole chain, it can promise speed. Coupang's own company site says that in Korea, orders placed by midnight arrive by 7 a.m., and that 99% of orders arrive within a day. Its 2025 annual report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission describes delivery options "ranging from next-day, dawn, and even same-day delivery, with order cutoffs as late as midnight."

For a shopper in Korea, the practical effect is simple: Rocket items arrive fast, returns are handled by Coupang, and the price is Coupang's.

What are the different Rocket labels?

Coupang has stretched the Rocket name across several services. Here is how they compare.

Label	Korean	Who owns the stock	Who delivers	What it covers
Rocket Delivery	로켓배송	Coupang	Coupang	Millions of general items
Dawn delivery	새벽배송	Coupang	Coupang	Order by midnight, arrive by 7 a.m. (WOW benefit)
Same-day delivery	당일배송	Coupang	Coupang	Same-day arrival in covered areas (WOW benefit)
Rocket Fresh	로켓프레시	Coupang	Coupang, cold chain	Fresh food, groceries, daily essentials
Rocket Growth	로켓그로스	The seller	Coupang	Seller items kept in Coupang warehouses
Seller Rocket	판매자로켓	The seller	Coupang	A badge on qualifying Rocket Growth items
Rocket Jikgu	로켓직구	Varies	Coupang tracks it through customs	Imports from the US, China, Hong Kong and Japan
Seller shipping	판매자배송	The seller	The seller's courier	Regular marketplace listings

The rest of this guide goes through each one.

What is Rocket Fresh?

Rocket Fresh (로켓프레시, roket peuresi) is Coupang's grocery service. Coupang's company site describes it as delivering "fresh food and everyday essentials" to millions of customers in Korea "in just hours," using automated fresh fulfillment centers.

Think vegetables, meat, dairy, chilled ready meals and frozen food, delivered at the right temperature. Korean coverage of WOW membership lists free dawn delivery of fresh food as one of the member benefits.

For overseas buyers, Rocket Fresh is mostly irrelevant. Fresh and chilled food cannot be shipped abroad in any practical way, and most countries restrict meat, dairy and fresh produce imports. If you see a packaged snack or instant food on Rocket Fresh, it may also be sold as a regular Rocket item, which is the version to look at.

What is Rocket Growth, and is it different from Rocket Delivery?

Rocket Growth (로켓그로스, roket geuroseu) lets independent sellers use Coupang's warehouses and delivery network. The seller sends stock to a Coupang fulfillment center. Coupang then stores it, packs it, delivers it and handles returns and customer service. The seller keeps ownership of the stock and sets its own price. The service was originally called Z배송 (jet baesong, "Z delivery") before being renamed.

From a shopper's point of view in Korea, a Rocket Growth item arrives in much the same way as a Rocket Delivery item, because the same network carries it. The main differences sit behind the scenes:

• Seller. Rocket Delivery: Coupang. Rocket Growth: an independent business.
• Price. Coupang sets Rocket Delivery prices; Rocket Growth sellers set their own.
• Product information. Rocket Growth sellers write and edit their own listings.

Seller Rocket (판매자로켓, panmaeja roket) is a badge Coupang gives to some Rocket Growth items that meet its criteria for price, competitiveness and policy compliance. In March 2026, Digital Today reported that Coupang's free-shipping rule for non-members applies to both Rocket Delivery and Seller Rocket items, which shows how closely Coupang groups them for shoppers.

What is seller shipping on Coupang?

Anything without a Rocket badge is usually a regular marketplace listing, called 판매자배송 (panmaeja baesong, seller shipping). The seller keeps the stock, packs the order and hands it to a regular Korean courier.

What changes for the buyer:

• Speed. Delivery follows the seller's own dispatch schedule and courier, so it varies from seller to seller.
• Shipping fees. Each seller sets its own shipping fee and free-shipping threshold.
• Returns. You deal with the seller's return process, not Coupang's.
• Separate parcels. If you buy from three sellers, you get three parcels.

Seller shipping is where you find a lot of niche, handmade, small-brand and secondhand-style items that Coupang does not stock itself. It is also where most Korea-only small brands sell, so do not skip it just because it lacks the rocket badge.

What is Rocket Jikgu?

Rocket Jikgu (로켓직구, roket jikgu) runs in the opposite direction: it sells overseas products to shoppers in Korea. 직구 (jikgu) is Korean slang for buying directly from abroad.

According to Korean reports, the service started with US products in 2017, added China in 2021 and Hong Kong in 2022, and launched Japanese products in March 2024. WOW members get free shipping on Rocket Jikgu even on a single item, and Coupang tracks the order through customs in the app. In 2026, Coupang said more than 600 new global brands had joined Rocket Jikgu that year.

This matters to overseas buyers in one way: some items on Coupang are imports. If you are outside Korea and the product is a US or Japanese brand sold through Rocket Jikgu, it is very likely cheaper and simpler to buy it in your own region.

What does Coupang WOW membership include?

WOW (와우) is Coupang's paid membership, similar in idea to Amazon Prime.

Item	Detail
Monthly fee	₩7,890, as of October 2026
Fee history	₩2,900, then ₩4,990 from December 2021, then ₩7,890 for new members from April 13, 2024 and for existing members from August 2024
Delivery	Free Rocket Delivery with no minimum, plus free dawn and same-day delivery
Returns	Free returns
Other perks	Free Rocket Jikgu shipping, Coupang Eats delivery benefits, Coupang Play streaming, member-only discounts
New in 2026	A Coupang Play premium pass for WOW members at ₩3,900 a month, reported in July 2026

Without WOW, Rocket items ship free only above a minimum order. In March 2026, Digital Today reported that Coupang would change the rule so that the final paid amount after coupons and instant discounts must be over ₩19,800, instead of the amount before discounts. The change applied to Rocket Delivery and Seller Rocket items for non-members.

Signing up for WOW requires a Coupang account in Korea. Guides for foreign residents report that account verification generally relies on a Korean mobile number. If you live abroad, WOW is not something you can use directly.

Can you use Rocket Delivery from outside Korea?

Not directly, except in Taiwan.

Korea's Coupang delivers to Korean addresses. Rocket speed promises apply inside Korea. To buy, you generally need a Coupang account, which involves 본인인증 (bon-in injeung, identity verification) with a Korean phone number, and a payment method the site accepts. Our guide on Korean phone verification covers this step.

Taiwan is the exception. Coupang launched Rocket Direct (로켓직구) in Taiwan in October 2022, letting Taiwanese customers buy most of the Rocket Delivery products sold in Korea. Coupang said it would handle logistics, customs clearance, import tax collection and last-mile delivery in Taiwan. Coupang's company site now says Rocket Delivery in Taiwan reaches about 70% of the island's area with next-day delivery seven days a week. If you live in Taiwan, check Coupang Taiwan first. Everywhere else, you have two options: package forwarding or a purchasing agent.

Buy direct	You buy, we ship (package forwarding)	We buy for you (HaulKorea)
Coupang account and phone verification	Needed	Needed	Not needed
Payment	Card or method Coupang accepts	Card or method Coupang accepts	One PayPal payment to us

Rocket speed	Applies inside Korea	Applies to the warehouse leg	Applies to the warehouse leg

Does Rocket Delivery make overseas shipping faster?

Only for the first leg. Rocket speed gets the item to a Korean address, such as a warehouse, faster. It does not change how long international shipping or customs takes.

Where it helps:

• Combining orders. If you are combining Coupang items with items from slower stores, Rocket items arrive at the warehouse first and wait for the rest. The total time is set by the slowest store, not the fastest. Our guide to combining orders from Korea explains this.
• Short sale windows. A Rocket item ordered during a sale arrives quickly, so problems such as a wrong option show up early.

Where it does not help:

• Seller-shipped items. These follow the seller's own schedule.
• Pre-orders. Release date controls arrival, not the badge.

What should you watch out for on Coupang?

Bulk listings. Many Coupang listings sell multipacks. Check the count before ordering, especially for snacks and skincare.

Food and restricted items. Coupang sells a lot of food, supplements, sprays and battery-powered goods. These fall under destination-country and carrier rules. Check the carrier and import rules for your country, and ask us before you order.

Voltage and plugs. Korean electrical goods run on 220V with Korean plugs. Check before buying appliances.

Account security. In its 2025 annual report, Coupang disclosed that in November 2025 it found unauthorized access to about 33 million customer accounts, involving names, phone numbers, delivery addresses and email addresses, and said payment data and login credentials were not compromised. If you have a Coupang account, use a unique password.

Duty and tax. HaulKorea ships DDU (delivered duty unpaid) to every country, including the US. Our total covers the item, Korean shipping and international shipping. Any import duty, VAT or sales tax, and the carrier's clearance fee, are paid by the recipient on arrival under local rules. US buyers should read US import duty on Korean orders.
