Korean Shopping Apps Explained (2026): Which Work Abroad

By HaulKorea · Last checked 2026-10-15

Korea's biggest shopping app is Coupang, with 33.57 million monthly users in July 2026, far ahead of every other general marketplace. Around it sit Naver's shopping, 11st and Gmarket for general goods, Musinsa, 29CM, Ably and Zigzag for fashion, Kream and Bunjang for resale, and Olive Young for beauty. Only a few have an overseas version: Olive Young Global, Musinsa Global and Bunjang Global are the main ones.

Below is what each app is for, who runs it, and what to do when the app you want only works in Korea.

Which shopping apps do Koreans actually use?

Wiseapp/Retail, a Korean app analytics firm, tracks monthly users of general shopping apps. Its July 2026 figures, reported by Datanews:

Rank App Monthly users, July 2026
1 Coupang 33.57 million
2 AliExpress 9.62 million
3 Temu 8.59 million
4 Naver Plus Store 8.37 million
5 11st 7.16 million
6 Gmarket 6.12 million

Two things stand out. Coupang is in a league of its own: Financial News reported that in August 2026 it was the most-used general shopping app in every age group, from teenagers to people over 60. And two of the next three are Chinese cross-border apps, AliExpress and Temu, which Koreans use to buy cheap goods from China. For someone abroad looking for Korean products, those two are not relevant.

Does it change by age?

A little. Financial News reported Wiseapp/Retail's August 2026 figures by age group. Coupang was first in all of them. Below it:

Age group Coupang users Second place
Teens and under 3.25 million Temu (830,000)
20s 6.72 million AliExpress (1.72 million)
30s 6.18 million AliExpress (1.71 million)
40s 8.62 million Naver Plus Store (3.47 million)
50s 5.81 million Temu (1.73 million)
60s and over 3.22 million Temu (1.07 million)

People in their 40s were the only group where a Korean marketplace other than Coupang came second, and Gmarket and 11st also made that group's top five. Shein was in the top five for teens and people in their 20s.

These rankings cover general marketplaces only. Specialist apps like Musinsa, Olive Young, Kream and Bunjang are measured separately, so they do not appear here even though they are huge in their categories.

What are the general marketplace apps?

Coupang (쿠팡)

Coupang is Korea's Amazon-style marketplace, known for 로켓배송 (roketbaesong, Rocket Delivery), its fast delivery service for items it stocks itself. It sells almost everything: groceries, household goods, electronics, beauty, baby products and books. Its paid membership is called Wow (와우).

From abroad: The Korean app delivers to Korean addresses. Coupang launched 로켓직구 (Rocket Jikgu, cross-border buying) in Taiwan in October 2022, letting Taiwanese customers buy many Korean Rocket Delivery products, according to Etoday. If you live in Taiwan, check the Taiwan app first. Elsewhere, you need a forwarder or a purchasing agent.

Naver Plus Store and Smart Stores (네이버)

Naver is Korea's best-known search portal, and its shopping layer works more like a mall of stores than one shop. 스마트스토어 (Smart Store) is Naver's storefront system for sellers. Many small Korean brands, especially in fashion, accessories and handmade goods, sell mainly through Smart Stores. Naver Plus Store is Naver's separate shopping app.

From abroad: Purchases go through Naver accounts and Naver Pay, which are built for Korean users. Most overseas buyers use an agent.

11st (11번가)

11st is a general marketplace with many independent sellers. It is best known for its November sale, Grand 11 Day. See Korea 11.11 sales 2026.

From abroad: Korean account and payment needed.

Gmarket and Auction (G마켓, 옥션)

Gmarket and its sister site Auction are long-running open marketplaces. Gmarket runs Big Smile Day sales in May and November.

From abroad: Gmarket has been linking Korean sellers' products to Lazada in Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines, with about 30 million products connected in 2026, according to Insight. If you live in one of those countries, some Gmarket products may show up on Lazada. Otherwise, use an agent or forwarder.

What are the Korean fashion apps?

Musinsa (무신사)

Musinsa is Korea's biggest fashion platform for streetwear, casual brands and Korean designer labels. It also runs its own basics brand, Musinsa Standard.

From abroad: Musinsa Global (global.musinsa.com) is the overseas version. When we checked its location selector on October 15, 2026, it listed Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand. The Global store carries a selection of the Korean catalog, not all of it. MTN reported in September 2026 that Musinsa's Taiwan transactions grew about fourfold year over year, and that it set up a Taiwan subsidiary in July 2026.

29CM

29CM is a curated fashion and lifestyle platform with a more editorial, design-focused feel. Musinsa agreed to acquire it, along with StyleShare, in 2021, and runs it as a separate service.

From abroad: Korea-focused. Use an agent or forwarder.

Ably (에이블리) and Zigzag (지그재그)

Both are fashion apps aimed mostly at young women, with many small online boutiques selling affordable trend clothing, plus accessories and beauty. Zigzag is run by Kakao Style, part of the Kakao group, which formed through a 2021 merger with the company behind Zigzag.

From abroad: Both are built for Korean shoppers. Many items are listed as free size (one size), so check the measurements on each listing.

W Concept and others

W Concept, SSG.com's fashion section and department store apps cover more premium brands. They are also Korea-focused.

What are the resale apps?

Kream (크림)

Kream is a resale marketplace for sneakers, streetwear, luxury goods and collectibles. Sellers send items to Kream, which checks them before they go to the buyer. Kream started as a sneaker resale platform in 2020 within the Naver group, and Inews24 reported it later expanded through acquisitions, including stakes in overseas resale platforms.

From abroad: The Kream app sells to Korean buyers with Korean delivery. Overseas shoppers usually go through an agent.

Bunjang (번개장터)

Bunjang is a general secondhand marketplace with a strong K-pop and collectibles side. Sellers are individuals and small shops.

From abroad: Bunjang Global launched in July 2023 for overseas users, according to Digital Daily. In August 2026, Byline Network reported that its overseas transactions grew 56% year over year in the first half of 2026, that star goods made up 60.3% of transactions, and that photocards were about one in three overseas trades. It accepts credit cards, PayPal, Alipay, WeChat Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and uses forwarding partners to ship abroad. Bunjang has also connected with Mercari in Japan and, through a sales agency, eBay.

The same report gave a picture of what overseas buyers look for: the average photocard sale was ₩42,000, Ateez was the most traded artist among US buyers, and Plave led in Singapore and Hong Kong. If you collect K-pop goods, Bunjang Global is worth checking before you go through any middleman.

Danggeun (당근, Karrot)

Danggeun is a neighborhood secondhand app. Users verify their neighborhood by GPS and usually meet in person to trade. Byline Network described how the app moved from email sign-up to location verification.

From abroad: Not practical. It is designed for local, face-to-face deals.

What about beauty and specialist apps?

Olive Young (올리브영)

Olive Young is Korea's go-to health and beauty chain, with stores across the country and a large online store.

From abroad: Olive Young Global (global.oliveyoung.com) ships internationally and accepts foreign cards and PayPal. It carries part of the Korean range. Korea-only sets, refills and some brands are only on the Korean app. See is K-beauty cheaper in Korea for real price comparisons.

Others worth knowing

  • Kurly (컬리): grocery and premium food delivery, Korea only.
  • Daiso (다이소): low-price household and beauty goods; its online store is Korea-focused.
  • Aladin, Yes24 and Kyobo: Korea's main online bookstores. Some offer international shipping for books; check each store.
  • Weverse Shop: official merchandise for many K-pop artists; check the shop for shipping to your country.

Which Korean apps can you use from abroad?

App What it's for Global version Without a global version
Coupang Everything, fast delivery Taiwan (Rocket Jikgu) Agent or forwarder
Naver Smart Stores Small brands, indie fashion No Agent or forwarder
11st General marketplace No Agent or forwarder
Gmarket / Auction General marketplace Some items on Lazada (5 SE Asian countries) Agent or forwarder
Musinsa Streetwear, Korean brands Musinsa Global (13 locations listed) Agent for full catalog
29CM Curated fashion and lifestyle No Agent or forwarder
Ably, Zigzag Women's trend fashion No Agent or forwarder
Kream Sneaker and luxury resale No Agent
Bunjang Secondhand, K-pop goods Bunjang Global Agent for items not on Global
Danggeun Local secondhand No Not practical
Olive Young Beauty Olive Young Global Agent for Korea-only sets

If there is a global version that carries what you want, use it. It will usually be simpler than any middleman.

Why don't Korean apps work with foreign accounts?

Three things block most foreign shoppers:

  1. Identity verification. Many Korean apps ask for 본인인증 (bon-in injeung) before you can buy, usually through a Korean mobile number registered in your name. See Korean phone verification.
  2. Payment. Korean card networks and payment apps like Naver Pay, Kakao Pay and Toss are built around Korean bank accounts and cards. Foreign cards are accepted on some sites but not many.
  3. Address. Domestic apps deliver to Korean addresses only, and the address field expects a Korean format.

You can sometimes download the app and browse freely. Checkout is where it stops.

What do common Korean app terms mean?

Even if you only browse, these words appear on almost every Korean shopping app:

Korean Romanized Meaning
로켓배송 roketbaesong Coupang's fast delivery for items it stocks
새벽배송 saebyeokbaesong Dawn delivery, before the morning
무료배송 muryobaesong Free domestic delivery
품절 pumjeol Sold out
장바구니 jangbaguni Shopping cart
회원가입 hoewon gaip Sign up
본인인증 bon-in injeung Identity verification
직구 jikgu Buying directly from an overseas store
역직구 yeokjikgu Selling Korean goods to overseas buyers
중고 junggo Secondhand
정품 jeongpum Genuine, authentic product
검수 geomsu Inspection

Note that 직구 (jikgu) on a Korean app means importing into Korea. A "직구" section on Coupang sells foreign goods to Korean shoppers, not Korean goods to you.

How do you buy from Korea-only apps with HaulKorea?

  1. Browse the app or website. Many Korean apps also have a mobile web version with shareable links.
  2. Copy the product link. In most apps, the share button gives you a URL.
  3. Write the exact option: size, color, set or version.
  4. Send us all your links, from as many apps as you like. They can go in one box.
  5. Check the total. We show one total including international shipping. You pay once by PayPal, with no Korean phone, card or account.
  6. We buy and receive everything at our warehouse in Korea, then send you inspection photos.
  7. We ship one box. If the actual weight comes in lower, we refund the shipping difference. No second charge.

Duty and tax are not included in the total. In every country, including the US, the recipient pays local duty, tax and any carrier clearance fee on arrival.

Forwarder or agent?

If you can pass Korean verification and pay on Korean sites yourself, a package forwarder gives you a Korean address and ships your parcels on. If you cannot, a purchasing agent buys for you. Secondhand apps like Bunjang and Danggeun also involve messaging Korean sellers, which an agent handles. See purchasing agent vs package forwarding.
